“The Moozic Lady”

Remember the “joy of music” when you were “knee high to a grasshopper?” I remember singing all kinds of songs as a child: silly songs, serious songs, Sunday School songs, etc.   Most of them included some form of movement which was a good thing because sitting still for very long was a challenge. (Think: “Itsy Bitsy Spider,” ” Where is Thumbkin” and “The Hokey Pokey.”)  I loved to sing as a child; I still do.

Last year, my three young grandchildren and I had the opportunity to meet “The Moozic Lady.” She was seated outside on a blanket. The children could come and go as they pleased during an event that offered several activity stations. She played her guitar and gently included the children as she sang from her heart. I lingered there, singing the simple songs of yesteryear.

As I am sure you know, music plays a vital role in a child’s development – cognitive, physical, emotional, spiritual and social. For example, one of my favorite memories about learning and teaching foreign languages was the use of songs. Not only were they fun but learning them greatly helped with vocabulary retention. (Think: “Frere Jacques” and La Cucaracha.”)

This Saturday, October 4 at 11 AM, “The Moozic Lady” will be presenting “Tap-N-Shake: An Interactive Family Concert” in our Master Works Theatre.  I’m very thankful it’s interactive because I know I won’t be able to sit back and watch. I’ll be right in there with my grandchildren, singing, tapping and shaking, truly experiencing the “joy of music.”
