Moving & Music

Hello Dear Readers,

Thank you to everyone who has mentioned missing my musings. You are so kind.  I have missed writing them but we have been very busy, a wonderful-it’s really-happening -dream-come-true-kind-of-busy, so no complaints here, just letting you know there’s a lot going on at Freeburg Pianos as well as other parts of my blessed life.

Since, I’m behind on my weekly writing, I have several topics I want to touch on so please bear with me. I will try to be “brief and amazing.”

#1 Almost all the pianos have been moved into our new location. The amazing showroom is open Monday-Saturday from 9:30 to 5:30.  Please come and see just how stunning the facility is filled with wonderful pianos and amazing art work. The photos we post are great but I would love to greet each one of you as you enter the door. (That implies that I am always there. I’m not, but Levi and Todd are.)

#2 Moving pianos is monumental. Imagine moving nearly 30 pianos in the space of a couple of weeks. Most people think once in a lifetime is enough. I actually met a writer friend of mine because of a piece he published in the Tryon Daily Bulletin on the woes of moving his “big old upright.” It was a very humorous piece, especially from my perspective. I contacted him to comment on the piece and we’ve had lunch several times since. Keith and I eventually helped him move his “big old upright.” He was surprised how easy it was to move with the right equipment and technique. Yes, after more than thirty years of moving pianos, we’ve had great opportunity to evolve with know-how and equipment. Even so, it still takes a lot of muscle. Helicopters come in handy, too. Have you seen “Peponi” by the Piano Guys? They actually moved a grand piano by helicopter to a mountaintop to film it. You’ll see a brief view of that in the first few seconds. At the end of the video, you can click to watch a “Behind the Scenes” video of the move. It’s amazing.  One of Keith’s brothers is a helicopter pilot. Perhaps we could add him to the Freeburg Pianos team.

#3 The first event in our Master Works Theatre was magnificent. AmiciMusic presented an outstanding “Jazzical” performance. The Theatre was filled to capacity; acoustics were excellent, the atmosphere “magical.” There were great conversations as old relationships were rekindled and new ones formed. What a blessing to hear people enthusiastically anticipating our next event.

#4 Speaking of which, the next event will not be at the store because we need a much larger auditorium. Our next event, The World Masterwork Series – “Preserving the Musical Lineage of Franz Listz,” will be THIS Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Hendersonville. (Don’t despair if you can’t be there this week. There are more performances.) You can read details about the event on our website but here’s my blog thought:

This is truly a one-of-a- kind event. Actual “musical descendants” of Franz Liszt will
perform segments of Liszt’s compositional history to give the listeners a sense of his
magnificent musical journey. Dr. Cobb and his young student, Christopher Tavernier,
will amaze the audience as they play the very difficult music on two beautiful grand pianos.
What makes this event even more unique is the added commentator and multi-media
presentation which is reminiscent of Listzian tradition. Liszt, himself, was considered
a “Rock Star” of the Romantic Musical Period. This “Grand Experience,” sponsored
by Freeburg Pianos, is free and open to the public.

#5 Last, but certainly not least, I just want to say “Thank You” to all the people who are part of the Freeburg Pianos “Grand Experience” and that includes each one of you, dear readers. Blessings to everyone.
Life is Grand

Joann
